Preparatory Year of Czech for Foreigners at Metropolitan University Prague

Metropolitan University Prague offers an intensive two-semester course of Czech for speakers of other languages within its Lifelong Learning Programme.  The course is designed for applicants who are complete beginners in the Czech language and who would like to learn Czech in order to attend university study programmes in the Czech Republic taught in Czech.

The classes are based on a communicative approach with instructors recruited from the ranks of university professors and professional language instructors. The structure of the course is designed to ensure rapid improvement of its participants.

Course types:

  • Extended two-semester course  - 36 weeks (A0 – B1/B2)
  • Standard two-semester course  - 30 weeks (A0 – B1/B2)
  • Standard one-semester course -  15 weeks (from A2 level – B1/B2)        

Participants will study grammar and vocabulary, speaking, listening and writing skills.

The classes are held every week day (4 x 40 minutes).

Successful completion of the course:  70% attendance and minimum result of 60% in the end-of-semester test and final examination.

There are two possible retakes for each test. When completing the course successfully, participants will receive a B1 or B2 level certificate according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Within the course, students will also learn about Czech history, culture and current issues. There are also culture-oriented field trips and sports activities enabling participants to practice the acquired language skills in real-life situations.
